WINTER IS FOR THE BIRDS….

Every January is a little bit of a let down from the big Christmas/ Birthday craziness that takes place in my home for almost the entire month of December. It is also back to the books around here and everyone including me, has usually become quite used to the more relaxed schedule in our home school.  Often, I would find myself thinking… “Winter is for the Birds!”… All that being said, I am making a conscious decision to make sure we make time for the {little things} that bring {joy} into our home. Trying to remove the permanent furrowed brow that tends to crease my face due to the daily pressures of life. I realized that through all the hustle and bustle our bird feeders had been neglected, and all our beautiful little feathered friends were not coming to visit anymore. The whole family really liked watching them throughout the day and we were disappointed they were gone. So the project began…. to attract the sweet little birds, that winter here, back to our feeders!   Right away I went to my pinterest boards & began searching out homemade recipes and ideas to welcome them back.  After finding many fun things to try {more blogs to follow} I decided on a peanut butter mixture. {recipe below} I purchased an adorable{vintage} silver creamer and sugar bowl to fill with the birdseed mixture and hang outside. I love, love, tarnished silver ,but choose these  also because they won’t crack or break in the freezing temperatures here.  I tore some fabric scraps and used them to hang the  creamer outside my front picture windows on a garden hook. It looks so cute and I love that it’s not a {traditional} bird feeder!  I did however, hang it next to a large traditional feeder  filled with black oil sunflower seed to hopefully entice the little birdies  who might not prefer peanut butter. I put the sugar bowl on the back patio in a {vintage} garden cart with an additional feeder and some winter cuteness ! Now, just watch and wait … update to follow…
{Recipe}
1/2 cup polenta
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup water
1 cup birdseed
In a mixing bowl add all ingredients and mix well . Next pack into molds or your own unique item to make a one of a kind bird feeder. Lastly, enJOY! make time for the simple pleasures of life and let the winter be for the birds!
